The Better Writer Better Reader community is a platform designed to motivate Member writers to become better writers by holding them accountable to weekly writing goals. It is also designed to offer Member writers insightful beta-reader feedback from their fellow Member writers. Every Member writes, reads and gives and receives beta-reader feedback on a weekly basis.
A Member writer is obligated to write 1000 words (1000 word minimum – 1020 word maximum for run-over sentences) every week (7-day period) over the course of 4 weeks (28 days). A Member writer is obligated to provide 100 words of beta-reader feedback on each of 3 separate 1000-word pieces of their fellow Member writer´s written work every week over the course of 4 weeks. A Member writer will submit all their written work and their beta-reader feedback in a Microsoft Word document through the provided submissions form every week over the course of 4 weeks.
Members have a 7-day writing, reading and beta-reader feedback period that starts on Thursday at 12:00 a.m. (EST, UTC/GMT -4 hours) and ends on the following Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. (EST, UTC/GMT -4 hours). Member´s weekly submissions and beta-reader feedback are due by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday (EST, UTC/GMT -4 hours). Deadline reminder emails will be sent on Sundays.
Membership costs $10.99 USD per month (28 days). It works out to less than $2.75 USD a week.
Submit the new Member writer´s user name and email address through the contact form within 7 days of their new membership creation and receive 50% off of a month´s membership fee. You may refer as many new Member writers as you wish and for each new Member writer you will receive 50% off of one month´s membership fee. The referring Member will receive the 50% off discount as a refund. Only one Member may claim and receive a 50% discount for the referral of a new Member.
Members will receive an email with a link to the submission form after registration and payment.
Members will choose the genre they wish to submit in and upload their 1000-word piece and 3 separate 100 word beta-reader feedback answers (as of their second week of membership) as (a) Microsoft Word document(s) in a submission form.
Your submission will be sent to 3 fellow Members in your genre for beta-reader feedback. You will receive the feedback 7 days later on the following Thursday (sometime after 12:00 a.m. EST, UTC/GMT -4 hours).
Members will be required to read 3 separate,1000-word pieces from other community Members in their chosen genre and provide at least 100 words of beta-reader feedback per text based on pre-set questions. Members may expand past the minimum of 100 words of beta-reader feedback per text as they wish. The beta-reader feedback will be specific to the written material being reviewed and will not include personal attacks, criticisms or insults.
The beta-reader feedback will consist of 4 basic questions. They will be pasted to the bottom of the written text the Member beta-reader is assigned to read. The Member beta-reader is obligated to give a minimum total of 100 words of feedback spread across all 4 basic questions.
For example: 25 Member beta-reader words of feedback are given on the first question, then the remaining 75 words of Member beta-reader feedback would be divided among the remaining 3 questions however the Member beta-reader decides to allocate them.
A Member beta-reader is obligated to give a minimum of 100 words of beta-reader feedback per written text but can choose to give a maximum of whatever amount of feedback they feel inclined to give.

Yes, Members can change their genre on a weekly basis. Members will be given the
option to submit in a different genre when they receive the weekly email from the website administrator.
If you don’t meet the weekly Member writing or beta-reader feedback requirements, your account will be suspended for a minimum of one week (7 days – Thursday 12:00 a.m. to Wednesday 11:59p.m. EST, UTC/GMT -4 hours). Your membership will be reinstated on the earliest Thursday at 12:00 a.m. (EST, UTC/GMT -4 hours) after you complete the outstanding work.
You will be suspended if you do not complete the obligatory Member writing and beta-reader feedback by Wednesday 11:59 p.m. (EST, UTC/GMT -4 hours). If suspended, your membership account will be frozen for a minimum 7-day period, starting from Thursday at 12:00 a.m. (EST, UTC/GMT -4 hours) after the incompletion of your Member obligations. You can regain access to your membership by submitting the required Member writing and beta-reader feedback. If you submit the required Member writing and beta-reader feedback you will be reinstated on the earliest following Thursday at 12:00 a.m. (EST, UTC/GMT -4 hours).
A Member will be suspended for a minimum of 7 days and then, in additional 7-day increments, continuously if they do not fulfill their writing and feedback obligations by the weekly deadline of 11:59 p.m. Wednesday (EST, UTC/GMT -4 hours). The suspension will continue until their obligations are fulfilled and they would be reinstated as active Members on the earliest Thursday at 12:00 a.m. (EST, UTC/GMT -4 hours) after the minimum 7 days or the applicable 7-day increment.
Yes, if you write more than 1000 words in a week, you can sign up for multiple memberships. Each additional membership requires a fee of $10.99 USD and that you submit a separate additional 1000-word written piece on a weekly basis and give 100 words of beta-reader feedback on 3 separate additional 1000-word Member written pieces.
The Member would need to create a Unique Identifier for the additional account(s). This can be done by creating a different user name on the signup form and/or sending from a different email address that is connected to the additional monthly PayPal payment.
If there are insufficient Members in a specific genre, Members outside that genre will be asked to give feedback on those written pieces. This will continue until there are sufficient Members in a specific genre.
Members will be paired with the same readers and writers to maintain narrative continuity. Unless a Member specifically asks for a change in who reads and gives beta-reader feedback on their writing. Any pairing and changes of pairs of writers with readers is/are contingent upon their being sufficient readers and writers in any given genre.
Payments are processed through PayPal automatically on a monthly basis (every 28 days) unless and until cancelled by the Member.
Members can cancel through PayPal, or their banking entity at any time. Their membership will be cancelled effectively at the end of the last complete month (28 day period) they made payment for.
As a Member writer in the Better Writer Better Reader community your participation is required. Non-participation is not a reason for a refund. You will not receive a refund if you do not participate as mandated. You may cancel your membership at any time, and your cancellation will take effect at the end of the current paid term.
All Members own and maintain ownership of the copyright on all of their submitted written pieces.
If there is a dispute between Members they can contact the friendly website administrator to intervene and they will resolve the conflict to the best of their ability.
